In recent months, our team has been working hard to continue our 2020 charitable drive by donating 6,000 individually wrapped cake bars to national homeless charity, Crisis.

The donation was distributed to people Crisis is supporting, who had been moved into emergency accommodation, such as hotels, across London. The hotels, which were based in Lambeth, Camden, Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Ealing and Wandsworth, were amongst those who took in 1,000 people who were sleeping rough during the initial height of the pandemic, and were being run by local authorities, charities and regional partners.

Crisis’ goal is to end homelessness in the UK by working collaboratively with people to help them rebuild their lives. The impact of COVID-19 has been detrimental on both people experiencing homelessness and charities across the UK. In addition to the charity’s year-round work, Crisis has worked with government, charities and organisations to help individuals into emergency safe accommodation, while providing them with clothes, food and essentials.

We are humbled to have been able to play a small part in Crisis’ huge project to support people who are sleeping rough through the devastating impact of the pandemic. During times of crisis, it’s incredibly important to help those in need. The work the charity is doing really is vital and, in many instances, is saving countless lives so we jumped at the chance to help out. Supporting the community is a huge priority for us here at BBF and something we will continue throughout the pandemic and beyond.

Jon Sparkes, chief executive of Crisis, comments: “The outbreak has reminded us all of the importance of home, and the safety and security that brings. We’re incredibly grateful to companies like BBF for their generous donation of cakes, which formed part of the food we delivered to people experiencing homelessness who were staying in the hotels.

“It is thanks to the kindness of organisations and companies like BBF that Crisis can continue its work to support people experiencing all forms of homelessness, helping them to leave homelessness behind for good.”

In addition to the recent donation to Crisis, we have been supporting various other charitable entities during the pandemic, including the NHS, to which we donated 25,000 cakes to hospitals across Blackburn, Bradford and Hull back in April.
