BBF is very proud of Reece Hunt, one of our NPD Technologists, who recently took part in the UK & IE Junior Chocolate Masters 2018 competition and made it through to the final four, due to his hard work, passion and dedication. In the final, Reece had to produce the following pieces, all relating to the sea.

• Showpiece – To demonstrate below and above the sea surface. The lower half consisted of a rocky base with some elements of flat coral and a coral coloured anemone. The top half is of a stingray breaching out of a wave. The brief was to not colour more than 50% of the showpiece.

• Dessert – This involved elements of chocolate seaweed and a foam to resemble the breaking of a wave and coral. The challenge of the dessert was that it had to be suitable for vegans and was to contain no nuts.

• Snacking Bar – The key design here was a clownfish effect.

This week it was announced that Bright Blue Foods Limited has won the prestigious Tesco Bakery Supplier of the Year Award 2018.

This award acknowledges all the hard work BBF have put in over the last 12 months in terms of delivering great service, quality and innovation.

This is great recognition from the UK’s largest retailer and the whole business should be very proud of the achievement.

Bright Blue Foods Ltd (BBF) has agreed to acquire the Cakes and Desserts Facility in Hull from Greencore PLC for an undisclosed sum. BBF was acquired in September 2015 by the private equity investor, Endless via its fourth fund.  Completion of the sale is expected in early February 2018 following a TUPE consultation process with Greencore Hull employees.

The Hull site will trade under the name of BBF (Hull) Ltd. The combined business will have turnover in excess of £140m p.a., employ over 2000 people across 5 sites and will be led by Jonathan Lill as CEO, supported by the BBF Board of Directors.

Jonathan Lill, CEO of BBF, said:

This is a really exciting time for our company, our people and our customers. The product range and customer base from both businesses are very complementary. BBF is entirely focussed on the bakery sector and this acquisition will be transformational for our business. We are committed to continue to invest in the category and deliver great quality, service and innovation to our customers.

Richard Harrison, Investment Director at Endless, said:

“We have assembled an outstanding Management team at BBF, led by Jonathan. This acquisition will double the size of BBF and will enable the business to maximise opportunities in this category through its enhanced product offering and scale.

We are delighted to support BBF with this deal, which once again showcases our expertise in acquiring non-core assets from large corporates and is a great way to start 2018.”
